Braddock Road (MD Rt. 49) meets Greene St. at the intersection of Greene (East to Cumberland, West to Cresaptown Rd.) and Fayette St. On maps circa 1921 and earlier, Braddock Rd. goes by another name... Old National Pike or the Old Turnpike. The road climbs Haystack Mountain, reaches it's summit just past Seton Rd. and then descends through Sandy Gap to Campground Rd. At one time, before I-68 was built, the road continued to the intersection of Alternate Route 40 and Winchester Rd. near the former site of the Six-Mile House. The path of the original road was realigned at various points west of the summit. Parts of the old road are still visible and are shown below.
