The 1819 Stone Conococheague Bridge
The original stone National Road bridge over Big Conococheague Creek was built in 1819 and serve the traveling public for about 118 years. It was replaced by an adjacent bridge in 1937 (See above). The original span was heavily damaged by Hurricane Agnes in 1982 and was restored by local stone mason, Leroy Myers, Sr. (Library of Congress photos marked "LOC").
