Main St. Boonsboro, MD 10.4-60.6:  BOONSBORO; pop. 1,200; hotel, meals and garages. 1-1/2 miles southwest are the Crystal Caverns; Antietam Battlefield is near; see page 19.
12.0-59.0:  Free camp at bakery (W-C).
Approaching South Mountain, West of Middletown 12.8-58.2:  South Mountain summit; this is the main part of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Here on Sept. 14, 1862, the Union forces won a battle.

Braddock Height, MD 20.6-50.4:  BRADDOCK HEIGHTS; a village; high class summer hotel. A summer resort. Exceptionally fine views of parts of four states from the observatory.
25.1-45.9:  State Camp; good; gas and store (W-C-T-L-S), in a 2-acre open field. Rating 60.
Clustered Spires of Frederick, MD 25.8-45.2:  FREDERICK, MD.; pop. 12,000; a rich and conservative city in a fine wheat and dairy section. Produces more canned corn and more gold fish than any other city in the U. S. Francis Scott Key, author of the Star-Spangled Banner, and Barbara Fritchie, of the famous poem, lived hero and are buried here. Buffalo Restaurant is popular. Information at the C. of C.

New Market, MD 37.5:  NEW MARKET; pop. 275; hotel, meals, garage.
Main St. Ridgeville, MD 39.6-31.4:  RIDGEVILLE; pop. 100; Nelson's Hotel is modern. Ridgeville Garage leads. Washington road joins here; sec page 22.
43.7-27.3:  POPLAR SPRINGS; settlement; garage, stores.
45.1-25.9:  LISBON; pop. 60; lodging, meals and garages.
47.5-23.5:  Cooksville State Camp, in fine 7-acre grove; one of the best; free (W-F-C-T), supplies. Rating 60.
51.8-19.2:  WEST FRIENDSHIP; settlement; garage.
64.6-16.4:  Good open camp space, free, at hotel (W-C).
55.2-15.8:  Camp at school (C).
59.3-11.7:  Elk Ridge State Camp in 4-acre field; gas oil and milk (W-F-C-T-L), supplies. Rating 66.
Ellicott City, MD 60.6-10.4:  ELLICOTT CITY; pop. 1,100. lodging, restaurant and garages. Large flour, wool and cotton mills; one of the oldest and the wealthiest towns, per capita, in the U.S.

64.5-6.5:  CATONSVILLE; pop. 10,000; a fine suburb; fine camp space in Forest Preserve, 1-1/2 miles south.
